About
Temple
The temple is
situated on the foothills of Outshadagiri, a tiny hill that also houses Sri
Hayagriva's temple. The river Kedilam, which flows from south to north on the
other side of the temple, is known locally as Uttaravahini.
The temple, which
was erected in Dravidian architecture, is the sole Sri Vishnu temple on the
river's banks, while there are a few notable Shiva temples. The temple is
surrounded by a granite wall that encloses all of its shrines and bodies of
water.
The temples face
east, while the rajagopuram, the temple's gateway tower, stands on the western
entrance and rises to a height of 60 feet (18 m).
The central shrine
houses the figure of Sri Devanathaswamy, the presiding god. In the sanctuary,
there is also a sitting picture of the consort, Sri Senkamalavalli Thaayaar
(also known as Sri Hemabhujavalli, Sri Vaikunta Nayagi, and Sri
Amruthavarshini).
The sanctum houses
the festival pictures of Sri Vishnu, known by several names such as Sri
Moovaraghia oruvan, Sri Achuta, Sri Dvistantha, Sri Devanatha, Sri
Vibhuthanatha, and Sri Dasyatha.
Sri Pallikonda
Perumal, Sri Andal, Sri AdiKesava Perumal, Azhwars, Sri Hanumar and Garuda are
among the other deities whose images can be found in the temple. Though the
presiding deity is Sri Devanathaswamy, the temple is recognised for Sri
Hayagriva, Sri Vishnu's horse-faced form.
The statues of
Garuda and Sri Hanuman are presented in Anajalihasta's unique poses, which set
it apart from all other temples. The temple is South India's only historical
temple with a Sri Hayagriva shrine. 1000-2000 years old temple
Specialities
Sri Vishnu is said
to have appeared before the king to accept the almighty's oneness. According to
folklore, the presiding god carries a lotus, Sri Brahma's emblem, and has a
third eye like Shiva, symbolising oneness.
Tiruvaheendrapuram
was named after Adisesha, who was formerly known as Sri Vaheendran. Sri
Vaheendra is thought to have appeased Indra, the lord of the celestial gods.
With the passage of time, Tiruvaheendrapuram became Thiruvanthipuram.
Brahmanda Purana, Naradiya Purana, and Skanda Purana all reference the temple. According to legend, a group of sages travelled all the way to Thiruparkadal, the Ocean of Milk, in order to get a pristine view of Vishnu. They couldn't see Vishnu there, so they travelled all the way to Vaikunta, Vishnu's celestial abode.

About
Temple
The temple is
recognised for its sanctity and historical history, and it spans a 23-acre
(93,000-square-meter) area, demonstrating the building talents of old
Vishwakarma Sthapathis in temple architecture.
Azhwar Prakaram,
Madai Palli Prakaram, and Thiru Malai Prakaram are the three outside precincts
(prakarams) of the temple. There are 32 shrines, 19 vimanams (towers), 389
pillared rooms (many with lion-like yali sculpture), and sacred tanks, some of
which are beyond the complex. Anantha Theertham is the name of the temple tank.
The main sanctum
faces west and is accessed via a 130-foot-high, seven-tiered rajagopuram (main
gateway tower). The presiding deity's image is created in such a way that the
Sun's rays fall on the idol on the 15th day after Chitra Purnima.
Hastagiri is a 360
m (1,180 ft) long and 240 m wide hill (790 ft). In contrast to huge temples,
where the rajagopuram is the tallest, the eastern gopuram is taller than the
western gopuram.
The massive stone
chain fashioned in a single stone is one of the temple's most notable
architectural features. A 100-pillared hall houses sculptures illustrating the
Ramayana and Mahabaratha epics. It is the Vijayanagara masterpiece
architecture.
The ruling deity
is a 10-foot (3-meter) tall granite statue in standing stance, while Thayar is
a 4-foot (1.2-meter) tall image in sitting posture. On the hillock, there is a
Sri Narasimha temple. The origin of Sri Narasimha's mask is unknown, although
it is said to have strange powers.1000- 2000 years old temple.
