The temple is
surrounded by a stone wall that encloses all of its shrines. The temple tank is
placed outside the main entrance, directly across from the temple.
A five-tiered
rajagopuram, or gateway tower, pierces the granite encircling walls of the
temple. Under the Garuda Vimanam, the primary shrine has the standing image of
Devadi raja Perumal and the festival god Amaruviappan.
In the sanctum,
there are also pictures of livestock and sages. In the second precinct, there
is a separate shrine dedicated to Sri Sengamalavalli Thaayaar, Sri
Amaruviappan's bride. Sri Agastya, Sri Narasimha, Sri Rama, Sri Viswaksena, Sri
Hanuman, and Azhwars each have their own shrine.
Sri Amaruviappan

Chandra Pushkarani
is a temple with a single tiered gopuram and a temple tank in front of it.
There is one precinct and two shrines in the temple. A shrine to Naanmadiya
Perumal faces east in the temple. It has a conch that is unique in the world.
It is situated on
the Kaveri's southern bank. Because it was close to the Chola port town of
Poompuhar, the site became famed for conch during the Chola era. The Sangam
literature Silappatikaram mentions the location.
The Chola rulers
have patronised the temple and the surrounding area. Suntara Ramanuja rebuilt

There is only one
prakaram in the entire temple compound (closed precincts of a temple). It is
said that the sanctum here is on par with celestial Vaikuntam. To the north of
the temple lies the temple tank.

King Uparisarvasara are said to have worshipped the presiding god. The sanctum
houses the presiding god Sri Vaikuntanathar (also known as Sri
Thamaraikannudiyabiran - the one with lotus eyes), his bride, and the festival

The Azhagiyasingar
temple is roughly 0.5 acres in size (0.20 hectares). The temple is encircled by
stone walls and is encased in a rectangular enclosure. The picture of the
presiding god, Sri Azhagiyasingar, is located in the centre. Sri Lakshmi is
placed on his lap on the right side of the granite figure, which is in a
sitting posture.
The depiction of
Sri Lakshmi on Sri Narasimhar temples is generally sculpted on the left side,
hence this pose is unusual. Sri Thiruvali Nagaralan is the name of the festival
deity, and his image is also kept in the sanctuary.
Outside the temple
walls, opposite the Garuda Mandapam, is a Thirumangai Azhwar shrine facing
south.
The figure of
Narasimha in the temple is thought to be one of the five original Sri Narasimha
images worshipped by Thirumangai Azhwar. Outside the compound wall, the temple
mast, Garuda's shrine, and a four-pillared hall are placed axially to the

Sri Vedarajan
temple is roughly 2 acres (0.81 hectares) in size and includes a seven-tiered
gopuram (gateway tower) that rises to 125 feet (38 m). The temple is surrounded
by massive stone walls in a rectangular courtyard.
A second gateway
tower is used to enter the sanctum. The initial enclosure's basement is
surrounded by a succession of pillared structures. The picture of the presiding
god, Vedarajan, is housed in the centre shrine, which has a raised structure.
The granite figure
is sported in a seated position. Kalyana Ranganathar is the name of the
festival deity, and his image is also kept in the sanctum.
The vimana, or
shrine above the sanctum, is built in the Ashtanga style and has eight
components. Stucco images of sages, Dasavatara, Lakshmi Narasimha, Lakshmi
Narayana, and other Vishnu Avatars adorn the vimana's outer walls. Thirumangai
Azhwar's shrine is placed in the same raised enclosure, facing north. For the Azhwar

Narasimhar pictures in the temple are thought to be among the five original Sri

Nine large gopuram
entrances connect the temple's different courtyards. Four of them are enormous
and colourful, visible from distance, and serve as a symbolic and useful
landmark for pilgrims.
Each of these
gopurams, or gateway towers, has seven floors facing East, South, West, and
North. The first four gopuram superstructures were most likely constructed
between 1150 and 1300 CE. The western gopuram, which is also the smallest of
the four, was most likely the first.
Sri Govindaraja shrine is one of
the 108 sacred temples of Vishnu known as divyadesam, which are worshipped by
Alwars, Vaishnava saint poets from the 7th to 9th centuries.
This temple is referred to as
Tillai Chitrakutam by Kulashekhara Alwar, who associates Chitrakuta of the
Ramayana with this shrine. The shrine has ties to Tirupati's Govindaraja
temple, which date back to the 11th and 12th centuries and saint Ramanuja.1000
