CHOLA NAATU
DIVYA DESAM - 40 TEMPLES
The Chola Dynasty was a territory of Tamil Nadu, India's
southernmost state. It comprises the Cauveri River's lower reaches and Delta,
and served as the cultural and political heartland of the Chola Dynasty, which dominated
huge swaths of South India and Sri Lanka between the 9th and the 13th-century
CE. The early Chola capital was Uraiyur (now part of Tiruchirapalli city), then
the mediaeval Cholas moved to Thanjavur, and finally, in the 11th century CE,
Chola monarch Rajendra Chola I moved the capital to Gangaikonda Cholapuram in
Ariyalur.
The
Cholas are known as one of India's longest ruling dynasties in the southern
states. In this part of the history, a new culture emerges, and art flourishes
like never before. This joyful period of history is still reflected in the
temples and literature of the time.
When
the Cholas conquered the Pallavas to gain control in the 9th century, they
began their reign. Until the 13th century, this rule lasted for more than five
centuries. The state of Andhra, on the other hand, had a Chola kingdom that
flourished far and wide around the 2nd century. The Sangam literature emerged
during the Chola rule's early centuries. Kantaman was a powerful ruler during
this time period. For the Cholas, the medieval period was a time of absolute
dominance and progress
Here the temple inside the Chola kingdom is known as Chola Naatu
Divya Desam.
