FOOD AND HEALTH-2
Food
is the major energy source for our life. The food that we eat is significant.
Quality food sources gives you the vitamins, nutrients and minerals we need to
develop and create, play and be dynamic, battle infections and illness, have
solid healthy teeth and bones, and feel better.
Healthy food:
ü Energizes
your body to work, live and play.
ü Works
on your state of mind and assists you with feeling your best.
ü Expands
energy.
ü Controls
weight.
ü Diminishes
hazard of illness.
ü Gives
nutrients, minerals and supplements.
Nutrients or
supplements we need:
For healthy living, we have to take healthy food with
essential nutrients. Our body is constructed by six minerals. For example,
astringent taste food will help in increasing blood; salt taste food gives
strength to bones; sweet taste food will help in building muscles, sour taste
food will develop good cholesterol, bitter taste food will give strength to our
nerves and pungency taste food. .
If
the balance of these foods is missing, we can’t live healthily. All foods in
the world are under these six tastes only. They may vary by increased or
decreased. Our human body is based on these six tastes. The ratio may vary from
human to human. Mother’s milk and cow’s milk contains these nutrients by
nature. Coconut milk also contains these nutrients.
Our food is divided into 6 nutrients. These are very
important in human body development. We should know about these nutrients. They
are:
1.
2. Carbohydrates
3. Fats
4. Mineral salts
5. Vitamins
6. Water
Proteins:
We
can also mention the protein as a muscle development power. Proteins have the
major role in the production of our muscle system. Proteins help in the body
development, stability and repair of the body. Cells contain a large number of
proteins in it. It causes muscle development.
Our blood cells also contain protein. It helps to transport
oxygen in the blood. Protein helps in the digestion process. For maintaining
our muscle system, protein is needed by our body. Protein helps in the
formation and balancing of hormones like insulin and thyroxin in our body.
Protein helps in the increase of the immunity power.
We
can get protein from wheat, rice, lentils, milk, meat and egg. In general,
meat, egg, chicken, fish are a rich source of protein. The doctors said that
these animal proteins are good, and number one grade proteins, proteins from
vegetables and lentils are second grade proteins. But, if we eat balanced
protein vegetables and lentils, we can get proteins at the same level as we get
from animal protein. If we eat a huge amount of animal protein, then we get
more diseases too.
Eating
rice, wheat, lentils, and greens in the correct ratio, humans can get protein
for healthy living. From meat, milk we get protein but also cholesterol. It
leads to heart disease. So, we can take this animal protein with caution.
Carbohydrates:
Carbohydrates contain starch, fibres and sugar. Minerals in
carbohydrates will give energy. It gives energy to work. It gives a good smell
to the food we eat. Steam helps in the function of the steam engine.
Carbohydrate is like steam for our body engine. It digests very easily.
We can get sugar in two ways. One is sugarcane, palm juice
and honey. We get sugar by eating jaggery, honey and brown sugar or palm sugar.
The other way to get sugar is eating boiled rice, boiled rice water, wheat,
finger millet (kezhvaragu), potatoes and some fruits.
If we eat too much sugar-content food, then excess sugar
content will get changed into cholesterol and stored in the stomach area. So we
get obesity and get the risk of diabetics.
Fats:
Like carbohydrates, we need some fats too. It gives energy and
heat to our body. Fats will give more heat energy to our body than
carbohydrates. Fats will not easily digest. Fats are stored in the bottom layer
of the skin and in the stomach area.
We get good fats from milk, butter, ghee, groundnuts, almond,
cashew, meat, fish and sesame seeds. These fats will shape your body and look
beautiful.
Fats
can be classified as saturated fats and unsaturated fats. Veins gets tighten
when we consume huge amount of saturated fats. So we can feel chest pain and
blood pressure. Saturated fats are also bad sometimes.
The foods like butter, ghee, ghee produced from vegetables,
coconut oil, milk, cheese, ghee sweets, ice creams, chocolates, cakes,
biscuits, egg, meat, and fish. These foods contain excess of saturated fat. So,
we can avoid or reduce the amount of intake of the following saturated fatty
foods.
Mineral salts:
The
mineral salt is commonly known as metal nutrients. The amount of mineral salt
is lesser, but it is very important to our body. Mineral salts are very useful
in the growth of bones and teeth. It helps to increase healthy cells in the
muscles, blood and liver.
Mineral salts help to monitor the work of metal nutrients and
to spread the salt all over the body. For example, Sodium chloride gives taste
to our food we eat, and, moreover, it helps to produce Hydrochloric acid in the
stomach.
Mineral salt is spread in many inner parts of the body. Iron
in blood, calcium in bones, phosphate, potassium is the best example. For our
body function, the maximum amount of calcium, phosphorous, sodium and chlorine,
potassium, magnesium, sulphur are needed. The lesser amount of iron, manganese,
iodine, sulphur, cobalt, chromium, fluorine is needed.
Vitamins:
For
a healthy body we need the above-mentioned proteins, carbohydrates, fat,
mineral salts. In addition to that, we need supplements that are known as
vitamins. It does necessary chemical reactions in our body.
Vitamins
are natural mixtures that humans need in little amounts. Most vitamins need to
come from the food we eat because the human body does not know to produce
vitamins.
Various
vitamins are needed by the various parts in the body, and it vitamins help in
the process of changing the food into blood vessels. A human requires an
alternate measure of every vitamin to live healthily.
We can classify
vitamins as vitamin-A, vitamin-B, vitamin-C, vitamin-D, vitamin-E and vitamin-k.
Vitamin-B can be further divided as vitamin-B1, vitamin-B2, vitamin-B3, vitamin-B5,
vitamin-B6, vitamin-B7, vitamin-B9 and vitamin-B12.
